GI Endoscopy Technician Job Description

The Endoscopy Tech, under supervision, is accountable for preparing the operating room for all gastrointestinal (GI) procedures (including endoscopy-related endoluminal dilation (ERCP) and less complex GI procedures), performing simple sigmoidoscopies and paracentesis with physicians/nurse endoscopists, maintaining equipment and ensuring appropriate scope washing compliance, coordinating internal and external supply orders, restocking inventory, assisting with billing functions and maintaining unit statistics.

GI Endoscopy Technician Job Requirements

Requirements:

  • Two (2) years of experience as an EMT, CNA, LVN, or certified medical assistant.
  • Experience as a tech or GI procedure tech.
  • The minimum educational requirement is a high school diploma; an associate’s degree in medical assisting or surgical technology is desirable.
  • The Red Cross or a comparable organization must issue healthcare providers with a basic life support certification.
  • A criminal background check and pre-employment physical are required.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Good communication skills both in writing and speaking.
  • Able to read and comprehend materials pertaining to one’s job.
  • Diligent and detail-oriented.
  • Must be able to work a variety of shifts and locations as required by the business.
  • Basic comprehension of endoscopic operations’ methods and concepts.
  • The ability to stand while performing procedures and checking and monitoring equipment is required
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds at once is required.

The Endoscopy Technician is responsible for preparing and maintaining the instruments, equipment, and sterile conditions required for gastrointestinal operations at the medical facility. Candidates for the position of endoscopy tech must have a mastery of the foundations of human growth and development.

What does GI Endoscopy Technician job scientiest do ?

  • Cleaning and preparing spaces and tools, such as scopes, in accordance with instructions before and after processes.
  • Repairs and/or maintains endoscopic machinery.
  • Supports and aids registered nurses and doctors throughout procedures as directed.
  • Performs safety inspections and confirms that the equipment is functioning properly.
  • Ensures the field is kept sterile by collecting and delivering specimens that were gathered during procedures.
  • Places equipment on patients, such as blood pressure cuffs, cautery pads, cardiac monitoring electrodes, pulse oximeter sensors, and nasal cannulas, to monitor their vital signs.
  • Helps as needed with patient intake, transportation, paperwork, and keeping track of doctor observations.
  • Distributes equipment or instrument information during in-service training sessions.
