Licensing Guide For Travel Nurses In Georgia

Steps/Process

Register with COGENTS Systems to complete your Complete Background Check prior to submitting your application for licensure.

  1. Instructions for in-state applicants
  2. Instructions for out of state applicants
  3. Mail in completed, signed and notarized application for Licensure by Endorsement including all of the following documents:
    • Application fee (check or money order)
    • Official college transcripts
  4. Verification of original licensure you obtained by examination of another state
    1. If the state participates in Nursys, you must complete the Nursys verification process, pay their fee and designate Georgia as the receipt of the verification.
    2. If the state does not participate in Nursys, you must contact their state Board directly for further instructions. They will need to submit an official Verification of License form to the Georgia Board of Nursing on your behalf.
  5. Verification of your current licensure in another state (not applicable if you are currently licensed in the state of your original license)
    1. If the state participates in Nursys, you must complete the Nursys verification process, pay their fee and designate Georgia as the receipt of the verification.
    2. If the state does not participate in Nursys, you must contact their state Board directly for further instructions. They will need to submit an official Verification of License form to the Georgia Board of Nursing on your behalf.
  6. Enclose secure and verifiable documentation of United States citizenship or legal immigration status.
  7. Submit one of the following:
    1. Verification of employment documenting (500) hours of licensed practice within the four (4) years immediately preceding the date of application.
    2. Proof of graduation from an approved nursing education program within four (4) years immediately preceding the date of application.
    3. Completion of a Georgia Board of Nursing approved reentry program (Click here for reentry requirements).

Timing/Schedule

Temporary License Time-Frame: unavailable 

Permanent License Time-Frame: Approximately 4-6 weeks upon receipt of all required documents.Applications are reviewed in less than 15 business upon receipt of all required documents

Renewal

Renewal of your license occurs every 2 years.
