Steps/Process

Submit an application for Licensure by Endorsement online
1. You must provide a valid United States Social Security Number
Provide a minimum of 960 practice hours at the level of licensure sought. You will include current or previous employers and the dates you worked for them in the application.
* Only needed if it has been more than five years since you graduated from your nursing program.
Pay the associated fees
After you submit your application and payment, you will receive an email with the next steps.
Complete fingerprints for national criminal background check
Official and final transcripts
1. Option A: Contact your school and request that it send official sealed final transcripts that include your graduation date and degree awarded to the OSBN office.
2. Option B: If your school subscribes to a national document transfer network, you may request the service to send official electronic transcripts to OSBN at: osbn.transcripts@state.or.us.
Verification of your original AND current (or most recent) state license verification
1. If the state participates in Nursys, you must complete the Nursys verification process, pay their fee and designate Oregon as the receipt of the verification.
2. If the state does not participate in Nursys, you must contact their state Board directly for further instructions. You will need to send them a Verification of Licensure form to complete and submit to the Oregon Board of Nursing on your behalf.
If you are a non-US nursing program graduate, you must have your nurse education evaluated for equivalency to UC standard by one of the OSBN-approved credential evaluation agencies (if applicable).

Timing/Schedule

Permanent License: Approximately 3-6 weeks for a license. The Oregon Board of Nursing does not provide a definitive timeline since it is dependent upon various factors.

Renewal

Renewal of your license occurs every 2 years

Your license expires at 12:01a on your birthday in either an odd or an even year (based on if you were born in an odd or even year).

Continuing Education

Complete seven (7) hours of pain management continuing education
One (1) hour must be the Oregon Pain Management Commission module.
The remaining six (6) hours can be your choice of pain management topics, but an established accrediting body must accredit the courses for CNE or CME. You can find a variety of suitable courses through a simple internet search.

*Graduates of Oregon RN and LPN nursing programs since 2009 automatically meet the requirement for six of the seven hours.

*This is a one-time requirement; once you have your seven hours, you do not need more in subsequent years to comply with the requirement.
